Breathing New Life into Old Shoes

When you truly love a pair of shoes, it can be very difficult to let go off them. This is often true even when the shoes in question are well past their best.

The good news is that you may not need to say goodbye to them after all! If your shoes are of good quality underneath the wear and tear, you’ll probably find that a good cobbler is able to work wonders with them.

What type of shoe repairs can be done?

Shoe repairs can be very wide ranging, from simple reheeling to full refurbishment. Repairs are easier to do if they are on the lower part of the shoes, but that doesn’t mean that nothing can be done if your shoes’ uppers need attention.

Available repairs include things such as:

  • Reheeling
  • Resoling
  • Rewelting
  • Stitching repairs
  • Shank replacement
  • Leather upper repairs
  • Replacing inboards

Is it worth repairing old shoes?

We live in a day and age where it’s become normal for us to buy a new pair of shoes instead of repairing our old ones. Though sometimes this can be the most sensible option, especially if the shoes were inexpensive and low quality, it isn’t always.

When you invest in a good quality pair of shoes, you’re buying more than a throwaway piece of footwear. High end shoes are designed to last for decades, but in return you will need to look after them.

Sometimes, looking after your shoes means taking them for simple repairs as and when they’re needed. Even a fairly simple repair such as resoling can drastically extend the lifetime of your shoes and make you feel like you have a whole new pair.
