Shoe Style Watch: Spring/Summer 2017

As we ease into spring, you may be starting to think about updating your look for the Spring/Summer season.

This season’s menswear catwalk shows in London, Paris, New York and Milan brought with them a range of footwear trends. Below we’ve rounded up the key footwear styles for Spring/Summer 2017.

Convertible shoes

Yes, you read that right. In some kind of transformer-inspired move, two-in-one footwear appeared in a number of guises on the Spring/Summer 2017 catwalks. The notable design feature of these two-in-one shoes was a very supple leather back heel soft enough to fold down in order to turn a standard shoe into a slip on mule.

Punk inspired footwear

Punk fashion is set to make a comeback this season, including footwear. Creeper shoes are key to this look, and thick creeper-inspired platform soles were seen on catwalks including Dolce & Gabbana Versace and Emporio Armani. If you’re not sure platforms are right for you, classic black leather lace up boots are a great choice for a more low-key punk inspired look.

Colour play

Many designers are giving their formal footwear a more casual twist with a bit of colour play. Marni, Salvatore Ferragamo and Emporio Armani all showcased shoes with contrasting soles, while Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana and Coach updated their loafers with bold embellishments including studs and sequins.

Sandals (with or without socks)

Sandals have got the fashion go ahead this summer. Make sure yours are on trend by choosing a pair in luxurious leather. Of course, whether or not you make like Prada, Versace and MSGM and pair your sandals with socks is up to you!
