Three Ways to Style: Derbies

It’s hard to beat a well cut derby. These are hardy shoes that perfectly cover the boundary between practical and formal. They’re great for the office, they’re great for a party, and they’re great for sightseeing on a city break. In other words: these could be the hardest working shoes in your collection!

Here are three ways to style your derby shoes, whatever you happen to be up to.

Look one: with a suit for the office

Derby shoes work well with a suit, especially in a slightly less formal office. A pair of derby shoes in brown leather look great with a navy suit, or black leather derby shoes work well with grey or black suits. Whatever colour you choose, we think derby shoes look their best with fuller suit trousers.

Look two: with jeans and a sweater for a casual lunch

Derby shoes in brown leather work well with more casual ensembles. Try pairing yours with a pair of dark wash jeans and a thin knit sweater for a casual look that will still look suave. For bonus points, arrange your collar so it’s just peeping out from the neck of your sweater.

Look three: with chinos and a shirt for a party

The smart-but-casual vibe given off by derby shoes make them the perfect partner for chinos. Brown leather should be worn with brown toned trousers, and black leather with black toned trousers. Other than that, feel free to experiment with colours! If you opt for a bold hue, we think a plain white or cream shirt is the perfect way to finish off the ensemble.
