Welcome to 2018! If you haven’t made your resolutions for the year ahead yet, might we be so bold as to suggest one?!
In recent years we’ve been aware of a big shift back towards the idea of buying handmade, bespoke items. This applies to art and decorative items as well as more practical purchases such as clothes and shoes.
There are a whole handful of reasons why we think buying homemade is the way forward. We’ve shared them below.
We need small businesses in order for local communities to grow and thrive. Many handmade products are created by small businesses who help to enrich our towns, provide local employment and give back to their communities.
Handmade products are the traditional way of things. This generally involves far fewer emissions, waste products or transportation considerations than factory made products. Handmade products also tend to be made to last, meaning that they are less likely to be discarded and replaced.
One of the best things about choosing handmade clothes or shoes is that they will be made exactly to your own personal specifications. This makes a big difference to off the peg products. These are made to standard sizes which are unlikely to meet all your fitting needs.
Choose a handmade product and you won’t have to worry about bumping into someone who is wearing or using the exact same thing! Even handmade products that are made to the same design will have a level of variation, meaning you can be proud of your one-of-a-kind item.
